Gil & Marsha Visit to Newport R.I.2006

We had a fun time in Newport! There was much to see. Lots of seacoast, many interesting small shops, a well-stocked natural foods store, a wine store with a fabulous selection, and much quaint architecture. We did a little shopping and a lot of gawking!
One nice thing about Newport that we appreciated immensely is that entire areas are preserved historically. One beautiful old home after another in beautiful condition, many with attractive landscaping.
The BIG DEAL sights however, are the mansions. They are in one general area, and you can park the car and walk the streets. The weather was somber in an overcast kind of way, and we happened to go mansion gawking on an especially foggy day, so you can easily tell which ones are the mansion pics. Some of the gates that fronted them were awesome. One had its trees labelled- two of these were a European Planetree, and a European Copper Beech, which tells us that folks had their trees shipped over from Europe.
